On Sunday 19th July 2015 the annual Beaver Scout sports competition was held at Gymn’s F.C. ground. Seventy five Beavers from Ballaugh, 1st Douglas Buggane(Monday), 1st Douglas Loaghtan (Thursday), 5th Douglas, Onchan
(Tuesday), Onchan (Thursday), Peel and Santon Colonies took part.
There were running races, egg and spoon races, sack races, ball and cup races, skipping races and space hopper races. In addition there was a running relay involving four Beaver Scouts from each Colony and the last race was a water relay where every member of each Colony took part.
The event was great fun for the Beavers. Numerous parents, grandparents, and younger brothers and sisters who had come along to watch and cheer on the Beavers also enjoyed the afternoon.
Voirrey Larkin was one of the parents there to cheer her son Aiden (6) and the rest of the 1st Santon Beavers. “He’s loving it. Aiden’s dad and uncle were both in Scouts. I was never was in Guides or Scouts and feel I missed out. Our middle child, who is 4 in November, can’t wait to join. He gets upset when he can’t stay.”
Franklin Gould (7) has been a Beaver at 5th Douglas for 2 years now. “Beavers is really fun,” he said. “And I enjoy having fun with my friends today.”
Onchan Thursday Beavers were the overall winners for the fifth consecutive year! They were presented with the large sports shield to hold for one year and a smaller replica to keep. In second place was 5th Douglas and in third Ballaugh. All Colonies received certificates for taking part.
