Beaver Scouts’ Five-a-Side Football Competition 2019

Posted on February 15th, 2019 by admin

Beaver Scouts from 1st Douglas Buggane, Onchan Thursday and Peel took part in the five-a-side football competition held on Sunday 20th January at the Tommy Clucas Sports Hall in Peel.

Each Colony entered more than one team, so in total there were seven teams. Each team played all of the others and there were some very exciting games. Over the course of the afternoon 50 goals were scored. Points were awarded as in the football league and the top two teams then played again in a final.

Before the final a penalty competition was held. Jake, a Cub Scout from Peel, agreed to be the goalkeeper and every Beaver Scout took turns to try to score a penalty against him. Those who were successful went through to the next round to try to beat the goalie again. Three Beaver Scouts tied for first place. They were Rafferty from Peel, Fynlo from Onchan and Dylan from Onchan.

Peel A team and Onchan Thursday A team were the top two teams so played each other in the final. Both teams played brilliantly and it looked as though there would be no score at full time. However, in the final few seconds of the game Onchan scored.

All the Beavers in the final were awarded  medals as were the three Beavers who won the penalty contest. The winners, Onchan A team, were presented with the Football Shield and a replica and Peel A team received a runners up shield.
