Congratulations to Mark Bently, CSL at 3rd Peel Cubs, who was presented with the “Top Volunteer” prize at Bibby Line Group’s Giving Back Awards on 27th November.
The award is featured in Bibby Line Group’s newsletter Making Waves and on their website.
The annual awards commend colleagues from around the Bibby Line Group who go above and beyond the call of duty to provide support for their communities and chosen charitable causes.
This year’s ceremony was held at Liverpool Town Hall, where over 80 guests were treated to a performance from a local choir, a speech by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and a delicious two-course meal.
Mark leads a local pack of Cub Scouts in the Isle of Man, giving two nights a week to organise and lead a range of activities, including open boat rafting, hiking, bushcraft skills and camping.
Within a year and a half, Mark’s pack has grown from around six Cubs to over 40, a testament to the varied and exciting programme of events that he and his Cub Scout colleagues arrange.
In receiving the award, Mark said: “I’m still a little surprised to be singled out as I am one of the many volunteers, from various walks of life, who gives time for my local Scout group.”
“To receive the award for Top Volunteer, for the difference I have made through growing the Cub Scouts, was very special.”
“I became a Scout Leader as I believe that every child has the right to an adventure. Life is about grabbing opportunities. The prizes don’t always go to the biggest, the best and the strongest – they go to those who persevere. These are simple life lessons that scouting teaches.”
