We will arranging some training early in the new year in time for the spring for the T1 hills permit (500m-800m). If there’s the demand we will be running a 12 hour course (2 x 6 hours) either on a Saturday or Sunday as would suit. Given that I am presently a provider for National Navigation Awards I will present a Bronze Award for those that complete the course following assessment.
The course will consist of an hour in a hall, another hour or so on a field then hill walking. There will also be a pile of homework to be completed before the second session. Topics will include map & compass, bearings & back bearings, resection, aspect of slope, pacing, route maps etc. To comply with POR we will also cover remote supervision.
The course is for members only, but completion will also aid leaders delivering navigation activities in their halls. That being the case the course will be for all members of any ability so long as they are able to do some hill walking. Younger and fitter leaders will go a different route. Help from our present T2 leaders would be good.
Please express your interest and we will agree some dates.
