Assistance required by the TT/MGP Association

The IOM TT/MGP Association has again asked for our assistance to fill the information packs given to everyone marshalling at this years Manx Grand Prix.

This is open to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network, leaders, helpers and parents.

The only uniform required is your necker.

Meet at the rear of the TT Grandstand for 10am Sunday, 12th. August.

We are usually finished by lunchtime. Obviously the more hands the faster the job gets done! Also, there is usually a ‘goodies bag’ for participants.

The TT/MGP association really appreciate the help of the Scouts as we do in 2 to 3 hours what used to take them a week!

TT Assoc. Needs Help Filling Marshal’s Info packs

The TT/MGP Association have once again asked us for help filing the marshal’s information packs.This is open to Everyone including parents (Beavers are a bit young)

Meet at the rear of the TT grandstand for 10:00 am, Sunday 20th May. We should be finished about 12:30 pm in time for lunch. The association provide refreshments and the young people usually get a goodies bag as well.

The only uniform required is their respective neckers.

North West Region Scavenger Hunt

The NW Region Scouts Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, 13th May in Liverpool. It is open to Cubs, Scouts & Explorers.

Right now, around 85 million people around the world have been made homeless through natural disaster and conflict.  ShelterBox works to change this. By providing emergency shelter and tools for families who have lost their homes as a result of disaster, they’re transforming despair into hope.

Who’s it for?

The North West ShelterBox Scavenger Hunt is open to teams of six Cubs, six Scouts or six Explorer Scouts. All Cub and Scout teams must be accompanied by a responsible adult, Explorer Scout teams may be accompanied or supervised remotely (the leader must be in the vicinity and in contact with the team). This promises to be a popular event and is available on a first come first served basis.

Event Information

The event will take place on Sunday 13th May 2018. Registration will open at 09:30 and teams will start the Scavenger Hunt from 10:00. All teams are expected to return by 15:30 and the event will close at 16:00.

Each team will be charged an entry fee of £25.00 which will cover the costs of hiring venues and purchasing the equipment required to run the event safely and successfully.

The event will take place on the streets of Liverpool City centre, starting and finishing at the Black-E centre located at just downhill of the Anglican Cathedral, on Great George Street, Liverpool
L1 5EW, approximately 5 minutes walk from the city centre and next to the Chinatown gateway.

3rd Peel Warrior Scouts

3rd Peel Scout Group became ‘Warrior Scouts’ to attend Peel Carnival on Sunday. Despite the rain there was a good turnout.   This was the 4th consecutive year entering and their theme was Vikings and Celts.

Their committee also had a stall on the promenade with a very successful and popular ‘Play your Cards right’ game.

Help Needed to Pack Marshal Information Packs

TT/MGP Association have asked for help to pack the Marshal’s information packs. This will take place in the press centre which is in the grandstand tower.

Meet at the rear of said tower at 09:45 am Sunday 13th. August. No uniform except your Scarf. If there are enough bodies we will be done in time for lunch say 12:00 – 12:30ish.

This is open to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Parents are welcome to along to as well.

St. George’s Day & The Victor Kneale Trophy

Details for the Parade and Service are being finalised and should be out by the end of February.

The Parade and Service for 2017 will be held on Sunday 23 April 2017 (which is the last Sunday of the Easter School Holidays). We are Parading from Victoria Road School, Castletown (leaving at 2:30 pm) to King William’s College. The Service is due to start at about 3:00 pm and Parent Pick Up will be approximately 4:00 pm.

These details are just for your information – full confirmation of timings will be issued in due course.

The Victor Kneale Trophy

The Victor Kneale Trophy is for an annual Arts and Crafts Competition open to all Scouting Sections on the Isle of Man. This year’s competition will be judged on Sunday 23 April 2017, which is the day of the Island St. George’s Day Parade. All entries will help form part of the Parade. The Competition this year is to design a Flag or Banner.

Birkenhead Gang Show – 24th February 2017

– do not read the manxscouts.com website
– were not represented at the recent GSL meeting
The producers & directors of the Birkenhead Gang Show spoke with a group of leaders recently and they started rehearsals in Birkenhead recently. Although they have a plan of what the Isle of Man cast members will be doing it will greatly depend on how many cast members there are. Although they could work with 2 or 3, more performers would give them much more scope. They would be in the opening and closing numbers as well.
 
The plan is for the director to come to the island for a weekend in December (date to finalised). Please contact Colin Brew, Janet McCabe or Gil Salway with the list of cast members or if you have any questions.
 ­

What is required:

­

Cast

A minimum of 2 members of each group, Cubs or Scouts, but can be more if they are keen to be part of it (Sorry no Beavers) and 2 Explorers per Unit.
 ­

Crew

6 x Backstage – leaders/network members (over 18s only)
5 x Runners – these could be Explorers (we have 1 volunteer so far)
4 x Adult Dressers – female preferably (we have 3 volunteers so far)
6 x Front of House per performance (these could be Active Support members)
6 x Make Up
4 x Chaperones (over 18s only)
 
This is the desired numbers, they can work with a few less and they can always find roles for more if necessary. However they would prefer to sell any extras tickets and make the audience even bigger!
 
Cubs or Scouts who take part in the show as cast will qualify for their Entertainer Badge, any Explorers who are in the cast will get the Performing Arts Badge.
